Pupils have been not only busy coding, but they have also incorporated Computing into other areas of curriculum. They used the app called Popplet to record questions for their online research. They have learnt lots since then.
During the unit ‘We Are Software Developers’, the pupils played and analysed educational computer games, identifying those features which made a game successful. They then planned and designed a game, with a clear target audience in mind. They created a working prototype, and then developed it further to add functionality. They tested their game and evaluated them.
In Year 6, children are obsessed with QR codes! They are an amazing resource and make learning so much fun! During their ‘World War’ topic, children used QR core readers on the iPads to research key facts about their theme. There was a lot competitiveness but also laughter. See it for yourself:
Children have also explored how computers transmit and receive information. They have learnt about the US ASCII code and had a go at coding and decoding their short messages using it. After that one lesson, they all could appreciate how hard computers work.
