Outdoor Learning

What is Outdoor Learning?

Outdoor learning refers to any learning experiences that take place outside of the classroom. These experiences could be in nature, on school grounds, or in urban settings – there are really no limits to where we can find great learning opportunities outside of the classroom!

Outdoor learning is an important part of our education provision at Leagrave Primary School. We pride ourselves in providing many opportunities for children to learn, play and discover the outdoors. Our vision for the future is to provide high quality learning experiences both within the classroom and the outside environment.

Whether it is a science lesson where children can explore the seasons, an English lesson where the children use the outdoor world as a stimulus for writing or a geography lesson where we explore the local environment; outdoor learning is an important developmental step for children which exposes them to new experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.

The Outdoor Classroom

At Leagrave we are fortunate to not only have a wide expanse of outdoor space in which to explore, as well as a fully functional outdoor classroom. This outdoor space is fully equipped with all the resources needed to enable teachers to teach their lessons outdoors. With wide panoramic windows and ample space, children can make use of the classroom during lesson time and during extra-curricular clubs.
